The Services We Provide
Spinal Adjustment
The term "adjustment" refers to the specific manipulation chiropractors apply to vertebrae that have abnormal movement patterns or fail to function normally. The objective of the chiropractic treatment is to reduce the subluxation, which results in an increased range of motion, reduced nerve irritability and improved function.
At Corbett Chiropractic, we use an adjusting style commonly
referred to as “Diversified.”
Using the “Diversified” technique, a special hand arrangement called a “pisiform contact” is used to deliver a specific thrust at the right place and the right time.
Subsequent visits may include motion palpation, with the chiropractor feeling the spinal joints move as you turn and bend. Or, a leg check may be performed, to uncover an imbalance in the neck or lower spine.
With the malposition of one or more spinal bones identified, a specific manual thrust is administered. The direction, speed, depth and angle that are used is the result of years of experience, practice and a thorough understanding of spinal mechanics.
The energy delivered during the thrust may produce a slight “popping” sound from the shifting of gas and fluids in the joint. This sound may be interesting, but is not a guide as to the value ore ffectiveness of the adjustment.
While improving spinal biomechanics can reduce nervous system interferences, virtually all joints of the body can be adjusted to help restore proper range of motion.
Axial Decompression
Axial decompression is an advanced form of traction that can be done to the neck and lower back.
It's very helpful in reducing pain from protruding, bulging or herniated discs in the neck and lower back.
It’s also beneficial for patients with a degenerative disc disease (arthritis), facet joint disorders, spinal root impingement and hypo-mobility. It can also help relieve chronic and stubborn neck and lower back discomfort.
The goal of Axial Decompression is to take pressure off the disc, relax tight muscles, relieve nerve compression, mobilize the vertebral joints, improve blood flow and decrease pain. Patients most commonly begin to feel a relief of pain within the first few sessions. They also report less back spasm, less arm or leg pain and the greater range of motion. Typically patient's receive axial decompression daily for one week and three times a week until the symptoms are gone. An average care plan is approximately 5-7 weeks.
Graston
The Graston Technique uses stainless steel instruments to comb over or “catch” on fibrotic tissue, which immediately identifies areas of restriction. The Graston instruments enable Dr. Corbett to treat soft tissue lesions with depth, pressure and specificity necessary to affect the condition at the site of the pain. Once the tissue dysfunction has been identified, the instruments break up the scar tissue so it can be absorbed by the body.
The Graston Technique is very effective in treating any type of tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, neck pain, fibromyalgia, tennis elbow, back pain, golfers elbow, knee pain, plantar fasciitis, rotator cuff injuries, shin splints, trigger finger, scar tissue and women's health, including post-mastectomy and cesarean scarring. Benefits to the patient include a greater range of motion, increased strength and reduce pain. The treatment time varies depending on the patient's diagnosis. In most cases, the Graston Technique is performed twice a week until the symptoms are gone. Dr. Corbett is the only certified Graston provider in a 20-mile radius.
Detoxification
In today’s world, we are exposed to a multitude of toxins everywhere we go. Air pollution, food preservatives, carcinogens, and chemicals in the water we drink and the cleaning products we use all accumulate in the body. Individually, they might not have a great effect, but added up through time, these toxins can cause health problems, lack of energy, and a general lack of well-being.
The body has a natural detox process: sweating. One of the benefits of going to a sauna is to sweat out all the toxins in your body. Unfortunately, many people don’t have the time to go to a sauna or engage in sweat-inducing activities on a regular basis. That is when ion therapy and the EB305 ionic footbath system come in.
The EB305 works by ionizing the bathwater and sending a small, charged current through your body, which generates positively charged ions. This increased ion field serves to neutralize the negatively charged toxins in the body, which are then expelled via the thousands of pores located on your feet.
Using the EB305 Ion Therapy System takes only a few minutes and it is safe for persons of all ages. Regular ionic therapy footbaths enhance your immune system, help your body recover faster from injuries and surgeries, and relieve pain and joint stiffness.
Low Level Laser Light Therapy
Low Level Laser Light Therapy (LLLLT) or “cold laser” improves tissue repair, reduces pain and inflammation and swelling wherever the beam is applied. Cold laser also Improves circulation, accelerates wound healing, activates cell proliferation, regenerates tissues, increases protein synthesis, kills bacteria, improves the immune system and Increases range of motion.
Common conditions that respond to laser therapy are disc conditions, pulled muscles, pain, stiffness, sinus infections, scar release and muscle weakness. LLLT received FDA approval for pain control.
Department of Transportation (DOT) Physicals
Dr. Corbett is also trained to perform DOT physicals. This includes reviewing the patient's past medical history, completing a thorough examination and also performing a urine test. Typically patient spent about 30 minutes in the office when receiving a DOT physical.
Orthotics
Personally, I recommend that all of my patients get orthotics. However, it is especially recommended for anyone with a foot condition. There are five reasons why you should be concerned about your feet. First, foot pain and deformity get worse over time. Second, surgery is not a long-term solution. Third, foot problems affect the knee and hip and back. Fourth, feet get flatter over time. Fifth, foot pain can turn an active person into a couch potato. I recommend and fit patients with Sole Support custom orthotics.
There are five main reasons that “Sole Supports” are not like other custom orthotics. First, the actually change your foot posture. Second, they combined great comfort and superior control. Third, they can correct knee, hip and back posture. Fourth, they are the only orthotics that is calibrated to match your weight, foot flexibility and activity level. Fifth, their orthotics may reduce an established deformity with regular use. These orthotics are especially recommended for patients with flat feet, plantar fasciitis, bunions and heel spurs. Casting patient's only takes about 15 minutes. It generally takes about two weeks for the custom orthotics to be completed.
X-rays (Radiographs)
During a visit with Dr. Corbett, X-rays might be recommended. X-rays are an excellent way for Dr. Corbett to get very good understanding of what is going on with your spine. The X-ray will tell Dr. Corbett if you're spine is out of alignment (subluxated). X-rays can also help rule out or identify other problems such as tumors, dislocations, fractures, osteoporosis and/or arthritis. X-rays are performed on site and are reviewed with the patient as soon as possible.
Nutrition
The cause of all chronic disease is based on two things; toxicity and deficiency. Nutrition is a big part of the deficiency aspect of chronic disease. In this day and age, we are very nutritionally deficient. Therefore, nutritional supplementation is crucial for everyone's diet. At the very least, most people need to supplement with fish oil, probiotic, vitamin D and a good organic multivitamin/multi-mineral.
Dr. Corbett is well educated in the field of nutrition. He offers nutritional assessments for patients. In this assessment, Dr. Corbett and the patient discuss their daily eating habits, dietary recommendations are made and an Applied Kinesiology Muscle Response Testing is performed. This assessment typically takes about 45 minutes.
Dr. Corbett teaches a monthly Wellness Class on "How to Live Longer and Live with Energy and Health" which is open to the public. If you'd like to attend, please call our offices for the next class @ 507-645-8846.
Massage Therapy
Massage Therapy is an important part of many physical rehabilitation programs and has also proven beneficial for many chronic conditions, including low back pain, arthritis, bursitis, fatigue, high blood pressure, diabetes, immunity suppression, infertility, smoking cessation, depression and more.
While there are many types of massage, like a neck massage, back massage or face massage, many people prefer to get a whole-body massage to enjoy the relaxing pleasure of kneaded muscles all over the torso and limbs. There are a variety of massages, depending on your interests or physical therapy needs.
The benefits of massage therapy include alleviating low-back pain and improve range of motion, assisting with shorter, easier labor for expectant mothers and shorten maternity hospital stays, easing of medication dependence, enhance immunity by stimulating lymph the body's natural defense system, Reduce post-surgery adhesions and swelling, increase joint flexibility and improve the condition of the body’s largest organ, the skin.
